Hyper-drive is an exciting, fast paced, and groovy work originally written for a homogenous ensemble of 12 saxophones, with the intention of being a strong concert opener. Its name is a play on the science fiction concept of a hyperdrive – a method of faster than light travel – and the constant driving forces that permeates much of the work. After an action-packed opening, the work reaches a moment of relief, moving through resonant and expansive harmonic sonorities. Eventually its driving forces return, building to bold sound masses across the ensemble.
