This Work was commissioned by the Australian Haydn Ensemble as part of their inaugural (2025) Illuminated NOW! emerging composer development program. It received its world premiere on the 18.09.2025 as part of the Australian Haydn Ensemble’s Menindee project.
About the Work:
This work is influenced by my many experiences across annual camping trips near a NSW town called Appin. At the most recent of these (earlier this year) I was very surprised by the extremely powerful and often unpredictable nature of the winds that surrounded me, often moving very quickly from quiet calm to intense powerful gusts. This work imagines and depicts a few of the characters through which wind can manifest itself, moving between these in a way that is exciting and unpredictable, but also strangely logical. The work also contains a few of the Gallant Style schemata and Westron Wynde melody that composers used in their music, embedded as ‘easter eggs’.
